Hi. I am Dorothy and took up running 19 years ago this March.
First of all a huge big thankyou to Vivki Pixi for finding a new home for all ‘The Running Bug’ orphans. I certainly felt abandoned on 01.02.19, after 6 years on the bug. My husband and I travel a lot with work and jaunts, therefore it is fantastic for me to be able to have online bug friends to share my runs with. Also great when a bug meet can be arranged at an event. Taking up running from scratch, I quickly got the bug, which really changed my whole outlook on life. I built up gradually, 5km, 10km, 10 miles, half marathon, then a full marathon for my 40th birthday, and another one 2 years later. Half marathon is my favourite distance. I love working out training programmes, all part of the challenge as to how to fit the runs in. Needless to say does not always go to plan. Have really enjoyed trail and off road runs over the last few years. More of an escapism than straight forward road running for me. In this Nomadic existence, the first thing I pack is my running bag, so where ever we go, all I have to do is get out the door. Really enjoy exploring new areas.
So happy the Bugs have a new home. Thank you again VickyFebruary 16, 2019 at 6:13 pm #2723Michelle LoaderParticipant
Totally agree with Dorothy, was sad to discover the old bug website had closed without warning. Thank you Vivki for finding this new home. In the space of a week I have received some great advice and feedback.
I was a member of the old bug for over 7 years. Started running almost 20 years ago, with a 5km. Progressed slowly to a half marathon back in 2014. Since then have completed 3 more half’s and achieved my PB in Hastings in 2017. After Hastings, I decided to join a running club. Best thing I have done, they run twice weekly and sometimes include a long run at weekend. I have met new friends and it is like having a second family.
This year I have taking on my first marathon in April, have had very mixed emotions but so far training is going well. So fingers crossed it continues.
thank you again and hello to fellow bugs
