Has anyone done the Langdale marathon or half?
Before i decided what distance to do i was wondering what peoples reviews are for this one??
This isn’t one i have looked at before and has never been on my radar, but as im opting out of windermere marathon they won’t defer my place but i can choose another one of there events and this one is perfect for the month of Oct 🙂March 28, 2019 at 2:27 pm #3777Dawn JordanParticipant
Think Mr Spriggs did it? Nice 1 in 4 Hill near the start!March 28, 2019 at 8:05 pm #3778Ian SKeymaster
So, 2015 I think, I did the half. It pi**ed down. But it was still a great run though I come away thinking it’s the toughest half I’d ever done. Though really wanted to go back and try the full. Which I did in October 2018. No rain but grey and cloudy, langdale is really one of those places that shines in the sun. For the full I ran the 1st lap or HM with my brother who had never done anything that holly so I had a relaxed HM, that saved me for a good 2nd lap.
It is hilly, theres a very respectable hill which starts at mile 2, then again at 14. All hills are runnable providing you go real steady. There is also lots of downhill to make the time up. All on road, all of it good road. It’s not overcrowded, especially in the 2nd half. In my top 3 of maras I’d put this 2nd, snowdon, langdale, windermere. Though snowdon wins more because of emotion. If honest I’d say langdale is actually a better run. Snowdon has the long boring stretch after mile 13. For langdale your constantly going up or down, always something to do.
I would definitely pick this one over windermere. Go for it.
