It’s 10 out of 10 to my wife for getting me past my post mara blues.  She’s managed to find holiday options for next summer which (a) are in one of the least populated and most scenic parts of UK (far NW of Scotland – yay!) (b) which are well located so that the first week just happens to coincide with the Cape Wrath running festival and the second week to co-incide with the Stornoway HM on the Isle of Lewis.  Even better, there options for both as between HM and 10k races.  (I think  tho that I’ll skip the opportunity to take part in the mega challenging hilly, and no doubt windy, Cape Wrath mara – even tho it does include a break for a boat ride part way through the race – lol!  That mara used to be classified as road race, but there are now so many potholes on the track that it’s been reclassified as multi terrain!).  Additionally during the Cape Wrath festival there is a midweek fun run on the sandy beach at Balnakeil – pics from this holiday back in June.

I’m also set to spend next six month wondering which combo of races to enter.  Currently I’m fancying doing the HM at the beginning of holidays, which is part of Cape Wrath festival – which is actually a linear run along the side of Loch Eriboll, a scenic sea loch, and maybe combine that with doing the Stornoway 10k.

What a wonderful wife you’ve got and what an amazing place this must be! I just googled the location and have been staring and intensely mouth-gaping for a minute now… So jealous of the opportunity to visit these places! 😉 Fantastic! 🙂

Good move by your wife, it looks absolutely beautiful there. I haven’t seen nearly as much of Scotland as I should have but youngest son is moving to Edinburgh soon so it will be the perfect excuse to get up there and do some exploring!

Thanks Bugs – I have duly passed on your plaudits to Mrs W! 😉

Seriously tho, there is some mega scenic running, including road running, to be done in the wilder parts of Scotland.  Does need a bit of planning especially in the Highlands and Islands as there are obviously fewer events than you would get, say in SE England where’s there’s loads of options nearly every weekend of the year.
